Valencia Football Club was founded in 1919, although Mestalla has not been the first home of this team. In the beginning, the team played in the Algirós stadium, with a maximum capacity of 8,000 people. On the 20th May 1923 the Mestalla stadium was inaugurated with a friendly match played against Levante. Valencia FC won by 1 goal to 0 marked by Montes. The name of our stadium comes from one of the 7 ditches of the area of “La Vega de Valencia”, namely the Acequia de Mestalla, born in the Turia River and waters the fields of the villages in the Valencian surroundings. Arriving at the end of the irrigable area, the canal runs buried, passing just below the stadium. This is the origin of the name of our stadium. The stadium has been refurbished several times and currently it has a capacity of about 55.000 people. Recently the VIP areas have been refurbished and 4 new video screens have been installed.
• Capacity: 55 000
• Opened: 1923
• Video screens: 4
